Hummingbird Festival – July 8

July 8 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

A Ruby-Throated Hummingbird hovers next to a cluster of purple flowers.

Hummingbird Festival July 8, 2023

Lewis & Clark State Historic Site, in cooperation with the Lincoln Land Association of Bird Banders, will be catching and banding hummingbirds. Experts will discuss hummingbirds, the banding process, and how to encourage these gorgeous birds to visit your yard.
Opportunities to “adopt” and release banded hummingbirds are on a first-come basis. A donation is suggested for each adoption. The adopters will receive updates whenever the banded hummingbird is found somewhere else.
Lewis & Clark SHS cannot guarantee that all visitors will get to help in the release. LCSHS can guarantee that visitors will leave with a newfound excitement for these speedy, amazing birds.
This is an outdoor event during the summer. The amount of hummingbird activity can vary depending on weather and temperature conditions. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, water, and sunblock.
A presentation on hummingbirds begins at 9 a.m. in the Interpretive Center Theater followed by banding in the morning until Noon.
