Welcome Back to Tours at Lewis & Clark State Historic Site!

Lewis & Clark State Historic Site is happy to announce that we are now offering tours of Camp River Dubois and the Interpretive Center. Tours (offered Tuesday – Saturday) will discuss the Lewis & Clark Expedition and its time in the Illinois Country at Camp River Dubois. For the time being, scheduling a tour of the Interpretive Center is the only way to enter the indoor portion of the site. The outside reconstructions, pavilions, and confluence viewing area are open for self-guided tours and use daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tours

Tours are available Tuesday-Saturday. Indoor tours will view the Interpretive Center galleries and 15-minute film. Outdoor tours will view the Camp River Dubois replica and Settler’s Cabin replica.

For the health and safety of our visitors, all tours are limited to 10 visitors per tour.

Due to space limitations, visitors should reserve a spot ahead of time by contacting Lewis & Clark State Historic Site. Walk-ups will be accommodated as much as possible. Reservations will be prioritized. There is no cost for these tours. The reservations are only to ensure the number of visitors at any time is at a level allowing for safe social distancing. Reserve your spot by calling (618) 251-5811 or emailing Tours@CampDubois.com.

Guidelines

To ensure safe and engaging tours during this COVID-19 pandemic, we have implemented the following guidelines in line with the Illinois Governor’s orders and Illinois Department of Public Health guidance:

  • Tours are scheduled and limited to 10 visitors per tour to allow for appropriate social distancing.

  • All tours begin in front of the Interpretive Center. The sidewalk is marked to encourage queueing with appropriate social distancing.

  • Visitors will be screened for symptoms before admittance for Indoor Tours.

  • Tour guides will wear a mask covering their mouth and nose during the entirety of Indoor Tours. They will be worn whenever enough distance is not possible during Outdoor Tours.

  • Visitors will be asked to wear a mask/face shield during Indoor Tours (except for children under 2 years old).

  • Visitors and staff are asked to maintain social distancing at all times. Spaces are marked out at 6’ distances.

  • Tour guides will sanitize the Interpretive Center following every tour.

  • Hand sanitizer and hand washing facilities will be made available to visitors.

  • Restrooms are accessible from the exterior entrance only and are cleaned throughout the day.

We appreciate your patience and understanding with these new protocols and look forward to seeing you back!
